The pursuit of perfection

Let's introduce ourselves to perfection. What does this emotionally and physically, often when thought about it negatively loaded word mean? Everybody has their own perception of perfection, but one common nominator is; it can never be reached, unless it's math. According to Wikipedia the word 'perfect' comes from the Latin word 'perfectio' which in turn derives from 'perficio' which means 'finished'.

This pursuit can also be called 'The never ending story' where the possessor of the leading role tries to reach perfection, something which physically can't be done, because in the end, perfection as we know it today derives from other people's opinions.

Taking the opinion matter into consideration: if you're the observer; the one who says to somebody else "you're perfect", you usually mean it although not told so often, because it comes from your emotions and your perception on how 'perfect' looks in somebody else or how somebody does something physically demanding or how somebody talks. This 'perfection' tends to change from time to time and there's still over 6 billion people on this planet who all have their own opinion of perfection. This could mean that perfection still exists locally, but only in the eyes of the beholder, not in the person who has "reached perfection."

If we take Perfection as its historical meaning implies to as finished, we reach perfection when we die naturally. That would be a reach of perfection; you're finished. This is hardly the image anybody has about perfection, thus let us forget about this approach.

In the end, it all lies in the eye of the beholder. You will always regret something and you will always think that something could be done better. There's always something that can be done better to get a little bit closer to perfection. You can be really damn good, excellent if you will, but never perfect.

If perfect would exist, then we would probably still be monkeys. Isn't that right Mr Darwin?
