Party in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Never have I ever felt as stranded as I felt in Rio language wise. Not speaking a word of Portuguese didn't stop me from having a good time though, because I had Fran. My brother from another mother who was the main reason why I went to Brazil in the first place. This man is incredible. Let me tell you.

The real reason why I flew to the other side of the world from Finland is that Fran needed me to help him move. So I went.

First off, landed at about 6am feeling a bit weird in the bottom of my stomach, "is this the renowned jet lag I've been hearing off?" I wondered, until I saw my man, already hitting on some chick on the airport. Let it be known that this girl had a hard time believing that there's a sun in Finland. "That white, huh?" Fran had an itinerary for us for the following days. Where would we be moving then during the night? The favelas.

But first we took off on a moto taxi up to another Favela. Pay two 'local money' to a guy and he drives you to the top of a mountain if there's a road to take. Tourists might pay more. I was white and didn't speak the language for a cause; I had a flour bath before take-off, therefore I'd been gagged. Anyway, we climbed a mountain; the two brothers on the west side of Ipanema beach. Needless to say, we had the most amazing view over Rio without any other tourists around.

See? Told you so. Breathtaking. All alone. Anyway after this we had a descent in front of, we would hit the beach for a little while, because atleast I was soaking wet.

See the two mountain tops covered in clouds in the background on the right side of the red "no swimming" sign? That's where we were 30 minutes earlier. Oh yeah. That's my Fran. He's great.

Later on we moved from the hoods of Copacabana beach to Favela Chapéu Mangueira. The taxi driver we chose for our sacred carrier of bags turned out to be crazy in traffic and we had to witness a road race between this taxi and a bus. 'Insanity in traffic where the biggest and the fastest always wins' is probably the best way to describe the traffic culture in Rio de Janeiro. Eventually we got to bed in one piece.

Then Fran got interviewed for Spanish television, furthermore his favorite tv-show. What are the odds? Oh you see the stairs? Get in contact with the guy in the middle of the next picture and you can get your own piece of art on those very stairs.

The artist himself.

We also went to a student party with free beer as much as you could drink as long as you paid the entrance. It was an outdoor event. Did I mention it was about 26 degrees celsius during the nights? It was fuuun! Afterwards we were supposed to get out on the streets of Lapa, but ended up taking a van back, closer to home, where we eventually ended up on the beach. I fell asleep. Woke up when a wave swooshed over me. Fun.

Oh yea, this little thing - Cristo Redentor, right? I went up there and found a group of Finns, which never happens! I was so perplexed I was unable to ask anything else than "is this the right way?" in Finnish.

The view from up there. Unfortunately we witnessed a cloudy day. If you compare the other picture taken from the two brothers, you'll see where we are.

Then the night rolled in. Taken from Arpoador towards Ipanema.

The view from the roof where we were living. The lit up thing on the right is the Christ.

All in all I had a crazy week, which is hard to put into one blog post and therefore I won't even try. All I can say that the fruit is heavenly over there and that Caipirinhas tastes heavenly after a heavy day.

Thank you Fran for this amazing experience! In-joy by taking your own journey down there. Lufthansa flies relatively cheap.
